2017 was a taxing year & this post is personal. First let me say an
YUGE Thank You
to my twitter followers and my gab followers. In a little less than a month these two groups have listened to me blather on and forgiven my mistakes without comment, or public humiliation. So encouraging; thank you, thank you.
I am not new to independent publishing however; previous experiences writing on freshwater aqua-culture, artsy-fartsy stuff and community happenings have nothing to do with this effort. They are compartmentalized and relegated to “the past.” One previous experiment in live reporting was in a word, a fail. Not because I didn’t work hard at it, or lack skills or wasn’t willing to learn on the fly. The failure was a common mistake; becoming too involved in the story. I found myself loosing my objectivity. However; I learned from that experience and that is good.
I walked away from my online opportunities several years ago and wanted nothing further to do with an online “life.” I withdrew from FB, stopped tweeting except for a very narrowly focused pet project promoting a small, local cause I was passionately involved with. Life was just fine, thank you very much.
Family members have often wondered why I did not try my hand at writing professionally. Some really thought I should be either teaching or writing regarding faith. I resisted writing openly about faith because it is a minefield. However; current events have changed my mind. The President of the United States had turned the political world on it’s ear. This presents a problem and an opportunity. I see an opportunity to open a discussion regarding diciplship detached from most of western dogma, as free from doctrinal baggage as humanly possible, pointing straight to scripture. Current events clearly indicate we are in a very rare historical moment.
We can either align with President Trump’s efforts to return our country to it’s Constitutional Republic foundation OR we can go along our sleepy way valuing the “change” legacy from the previous administration toward a country of lawlessness and slavery to foreign powers and domestic enemies. I choose the county I was raised to believe in. I choose to come out of “retirement” from online life and fight for what I believe in.
In an effort to be transparent, let us discuss some pros and cons.
- Time, I have lots of it
- Skills, I have enough
- Personal satisfaction, a great deal
- Community & Collaboration, love it
- Fellowship, iron sharpens iron – right?
- Time, research & fact checking takes a lot of time
- Skills, I have more than are displayed here which brings us to
- Equipment, limited – currently I use a tiny tablet with an attached almost QWERTY keyboard. The two most used punctuation marks, ‘ & ” are in strange places. This little thing has v e r y limited graphic capability in that about the most I can do is some resizing, and text overlay. No video editing and it is questionable if I can even produce an audio podcast
- WordPress free blogging with some collaboration capabilities but no ability to
- Monitize, in order to provide a full experience, I need a tip jar or fund raiser platform which WordPress will not allow on it’s free blogging option
A few more thoughts about monitzation. On a blog or site with limited traffic as we are now, it is no big pain to make changes to layout or add users. However; once the site hits on a hot topic or attracts a certain level of followers, changes irritate people. Better to build the site with extensibility in place and impliment it as needed.
Presumptious? Perhaps however; past personal experience taught me these lessons.
In 2018 the main focus of this site will remain how faith intersects with everyday life. To that end we will rely on scripture, appealing to the Hebrew, Aramaic & Greek meanings of important words and concepts. We will disreguard traditional doctrine and dogma except where it agrees with the text. We will also utilize human history, science and culture where it too agrees with scripture.
We intend to be brutally honest. Some sources cited may not be appropriate for work, others may not be appropriate for children under the age of majority. In such cases, we will use two standard rating conventions at the head of the posts: (#NSFW) not safe for work and (#NC17) not safe for children. In these cases we will use either a quote or featured image to fill the head of the post, giving the reader fair warning and the opportunity to view something else.
The long series:
We previewed this yesterday, December 30, 2017. The series entitled, “Daniel, Ezekiel & Revelation” is a multi-part series exploring symbolism in scripture. To my chagrin apparently it did not post to gab & twitter. Not sure why yet, but it will be reposted later today.
Thank you for your attention. My sincere wish for you is a Happy & Healthy New Year!
