jn14 came across a very interesting twitter thread early this morning. The original poster, Parker Higgins started a conversation regarding challenge coins.
Challenge coins are tokens of a military unit or specialty. They might be thought of as a “password” in durable form. They have a long history but that is not what the guys in the thread were talking about three days ago. Parker Higgins started with a coin he says he thinks is the wildest one he has ever seen.
I collect challenge coins from “cyber” divisions, and they’re all bonkers, but this has got to be the wildest one I’ve ever seen.@xor on twitter
Why are you interested in Challenge Coins?
It is not the coins themselves but the artwork on them. Often the symbolism is meant to intimidate one who finds it or inspire brotherhood and bravado in one who possesses it. They are but one example of miniature, functional, everyday artwork throughout history. In miniature artwork, the more detailed and ornate, the harder an object is to counterfit. Interestingly, a commenter posted a reference to the origins of the saying on Higgins coin. halieusmedia decided to expand on the saying in a video this morning.
