“The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work… when you go to church… when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Into a prison that you cannot taste or see or touch. A prison for your mind.”
― Morpheus The Matrix
Why would we start a post entitled “Daniel’ Ezekiel & Revelation” with a quote from Morpheus of “The Matrix”, seems a little weird doesn’t it? Yes and no.
The symbolic language in these three books are not to be taken as literal; they are descriptions who’s definitions can be found in the bible if you dig deep enough and are coroborated in the history of mankind. Not all details are coroborated…yet. Something most modern day folks fail to understand; casual readers, teachers, pastors and athiests alike.
The purpose of this post is to get it out of the way on this second to last day of 2017. This author wishes to expose the curious to some concepts planned for 2018 by introducing an artist’s rendition of what Daniel saw; an image of a great leader represented by a statue who’s head appears to be made of gold, arms and chest of silver, abdomin of brass, legs of iron, feet and toes made of a mixture of iron and clay.
What is the first thing you notice about the statue? Perhaps it is the fact that four metals are represented; each decending in value on a monetary scale. Each more common in everyday life than it’s predicessor except the last which is not a metal but clay-the stuff of dirt. Is dirt not the most common element on the planet? (even under water)
There are several common theories that explain the symbolism of the physical attributes of the statue. The overarching being the statue represents five great civilizations that rule the world through trade, conquest, ideology and force when all else fails. The civilizations have most often been described as:
- head, gold, Babylon
- arms & chest, silver, Medo-Persian
- abdomenal area, brass, Greece or Greek influence
- legs, iron, Roman Empire/divided-East & West
- feet, clay & iron, mixed empire or revived Roman Empire
OR a theory very interesting to this author and gaining in logic plus current events: Islam.
In 2018 picking apart this image and it’s apparent corolary texts in Ezekiel and Revelation will be an ongoing project. Back to the opening question; why begin this post with Morpheus? Because the character of Morpheus was correct in his dialectic method of questioning Neo to get him to think. The use of a popular sub-culture figure as an opener is admittedly a hook. We want you to think and question everything you know and have been taught. Even what you see happening around you today. Ask yourself; is it real, is it true & how do I know? The answers, like the Matrix, are all around you.
Halieus Media and this author have no desire to promote any particular doctrinal position, nor are we interested in time wasting debates. If the reader has a doctrinal belief, all well and good. However; where we may agree on an interpretation of a set of facts, we may disagree on dogma. It is our decision to stick to the biblical text; Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek meanings of words and concepts, as closely as humanly possible.
We will pull from any and every source to support our position. What this means is that some sources and some posts may not be suitable for work (#NSFW). Furthermore; some sources and posts are not suitable for children under the age of majority (#NC17). We have used these two common ratings as tags for posts so you can make informed decisions. The tags will be placed in both the slug and at the head of the post. In the case of the head of the post, we will make a concerted effort to fill the head with an appropriate quote or image, as we have done today, to tip off the reader that content below may not be suitable in certain situations. Caveat Emptor.
Author’s note: As you may have noticed, this author is weak when it comes to spelling on occasion. The writing instrument is a very small tablet with attached keyboard. The keyboard had some punctuation & other characters in weird places; these ‘ & ” could not be in worse places if one is used to standard QWERTY keyboarding. Additionally, the onscreen keyboard keeps popping up at the most inconvienient times. There should be a way to default to the physical keyboard but it has not revealed itself…yet.
WordPress does not provide an auto-spellchecker. Yes, pretty sure “there’s an app for that.” However; the onboard keyboard popping up is a new phenomenon in the two weeks the author had had this device. Without further blathering; off to beat the device into submission by reading some distructions.
Comments, questions & concerns may be left for us to ponder. Thanks for reading; we appreciate your attention.
