The truth is in the last two-ish weeks I’ve had about eighteen-hundred things going on at once.
- It is spring where I am located and the Shepherd knows it. I have had plans to start her carting all along. So I bought a foldable kiddie wagon to try with her. She is a natural puller and always wants to have her nose out front of me. This is great for carting but a nightmare teaching her to heel for the last 8 or so months.
- I have gained a small following on WordPress of writers; YaY! Thank you so much for your likes and kind comments. I sincerely appreciate your visits.
- I have been researching a topic I do not even want to talk about; I stopped writing about it a couple of months ago. However, recent disclosures necessitated spending hours researching and listening to real-time evidences.
- I moved 8 months ago, it still looks like I am moving in or out. The situation became intolerable due to the fact I had no desk/worktable/dining thing. So a friend and I collaborated and came up with a solution; tabletop farmed out to @pyremedia for his skills. Design, measuring for functionality in a couple of situations here and assembly done by me. The result is perfect for my needs. It also was a very satisfying DIY!
I had to make some really hard choices for Halieus Media based on a self-funded budget and content market demand. The truth is the content consumer wants one of two things and in some cases both; a passive way to gather information while doing something else and they want to respond in changing ways. They want to participate, share their knowlege and expertise; they are also much more inclined to support on a per production basis. A few cents here, a couple of dollars there but not so much a monthly subscription unless it is very low-priced.
What does that mean?
Halieus Media cannot monetize in any way on WordPress unless we upgrade two plan jumps. We cannot afford to cough up $100 up front for a year. Jn14 already owns a domain name for a completely different endeavor. The choice kicking around was; do we launch a product line in that other effort and support Halieus Media with part of the profits? Or do we find another way to monetize seperatly from WordPress and upgrade the written portion from the other income stream?
The answer is Yes. Which also means our 2018 Projects published a couple of months ago will undergo a serious re-work.
What is important and what is not.
jn14 still believes in the written word, especially if you are an independent writer/researcher. One really needs a spot to park links, outline stories and get feedback from those who prefer to read vs those who prefer podcasts, vidcasts and livestreams. I have noticed the podcasters tend to refer their followers to other podcasters; video content producers tend to refer their followers to other video content producers. Not a thing wrong with that, the production is tailored to a particular market preference.
jn14 has joined a research collective who feed information to a livestreamer. The platform has a video clipping function. The producer encourages subscribers to clip, share, comment upon, expand upon and generally enlarge his production while floating your own boat. Readers are aware Halieus Media already does soft-promotion of our source content, mostly a featured video upon which jn14 adds some further perspective or content in written form.
After our readers slog their way through sometimes as much as an hours worth of video or in some cases, audio, our followers still have all the written material to digest. Halieus Media is not able to produce a regular podcast or vidcast but we can help another in that medium with research. It seems to us, a very good solution. The livestreamer gets help with research and a subscription, we have a platform from which to fact check and monitize this written content without breaking WordPress rules and eventually being able to fully fund this site.
What about the tangible product idea?
It is jn14’s opinion a tangible one-time purchase of a nic-nack, is a viable option for revenue stream. However, not right now, perhaps in a couple of months. There is a verticle learning curve that must be mastered to competency in learning how to clip from one platform and publish on another or several. The publishing part is already known. It is the use of the other platform which requires a verticle climb.
So your patience at a lower volume of written material for the time being is greatly appreciated as we see just how the changes will effect our schedule.
On a brighter note; the Shepherd may be ready to assume some public duties. Barking, chasing birds and general hamming for the camera. She is a joy to watch when she is running.
We leave you to your beautiful spring day. Thanks for dropping by; comments, questions and likes are always welcome. Please do review our comment policy, if you are unfamiliar.
Post Script: This is our 100th post day. Happy 100th post day to Halieus Media. Off to find cake!
